Is Your Dog a University Candidate?

At Dog Cognition Labs you learn how your dog experiences the world, what he’s thinking and how you can train him to do so much more, or you can ask Colleen.

Have you ever wondered what your dog is thinking? Is she as smart as you think she is? Do you think she could go to college?  Well, that might be an option! Universities around the world are asking the question — how do dogs view the world?  Through their noses of course!

Speaking of “seeing” did you know – dogs see very few colors?  They can only see blues and yellows (not reds)… But boy what big noses they have! Dogs “see” with their noses in glorious Technicolor! Wouldn’t you also love to know what’s going on in that doggie brain of his? Well, you aren’t the only one. Around the world, Dog Cognition Labs are studying this very thing.

Alexandra Horowitz, author and researcher at the Dog Cognition Lab at Barnard College is studying New York dogs. (I wonder if New York dogs have a different accent and attitude than West Coast dogs?) Horowitz wrote about how dogs smell in her book Inside of a Dog. And… The Dog Cognition Lab is looking for dog participants to study the effects of nosework as well as human-dog play on dogs personalities. Tell your NY friends about it!

Brian Hare is at Duke University and the Dog Cognition Lab where he studies dog intellegence and helps humans find out how smart their dogs are through a variety of tests and games. You can purchase a Dog Assessment for yourself or a loved one NOW!

There’s also a Canine Cognition Center in the Psychology Department at Yale University. How upper crust…wouldn’t you love to say: ”My dog went to Yale!”

And get this…

Adam Miklosi and friends at The Family Dog Project in Budapest have spearheaded the Genius Dog Challenge in search of the world’s smartest dog! They’ve narrowed it down to six leading contenders and are broadcasting their results weekly until Dec 15, 2020 on  YouTube.

No doubt, your dog communicates with a look, a bark, or a sit. And earlier this year, we talked about how dogs can learn a vocabulary. But can she do more? Enjoy this video of about a woman in Tacoma, Washington who has taught her dog to “talk” to her through buttons.

Speaking of fun dog activities…I just sent in my dog Simon’s saliva to Embark and will be getting his genetic test results n a few weeks. So stay tuned…

With a little training, your dog could do so much more. Are you willing to put in the time and effort? Would you like my help? I’ve got new “hybrid” training classes designed to maximize SAFETY and dog training. Please contact me for more information or call 541-601-7601 to book a lesson.
