Can’t leave your pooch alone? Is he shredding, chewing, barking or worse?… Below are some ways to help your dog learn to be alone.
- STUFF A KONG or other toy with food and freeze it. Use peanut butter, pumpkin or canned dog food mixed with dry kibble. Add a few hot dogs pieces to spice it up. Give dog her whole meal out of food toys that could potentially last hours.
- EXERCISE YOUR DOG and tire him out to help relax him & help the alone time.
- GIVE HERBAL REMEDIES to help calm him: Pet supplements with Chamomile and Valerian have worked for many dogs. Or, try Animal Rescue Formula or Five Flower to reduce stress. Also–the DAP (Dog Appeasing Hormone) that you plug into an outlet works great on a lot of dogs…
- PRACTICE SHORT DEPARTURES at first and slowly work your way up to longer absences. Keep comings and goings low key so it’s no big deal that you’re leaving and returning. The goal here is ZERO stress in your dog.
- FINALLY, if your dog has severe separation anxiety–you’ll probably need help from a professional, as this is an actual panic disorder that requires systematic desensitization to cure. The good news is, it IS curable!
